Great post. I’ve been using Novita AI via Anything LLM. Maybe not as private as this solution, but the amazing thing I realized is how cheap it can be compared to the mainstream $20 per month model. It has access to top open source models like Llama 4 Maverick, GLM 5 and Kimi K2. Pay as you go model. After a week of moderate use I have paid about $0.01. You avoid vendor lock in and also improve your LLM IQ by being able to switch models depending on the task. It almost feels too good to be true.
For someone who is deathly afraid of using AI, maybe I needed to hear this. I am totally clueless. I have just started writing on Substack. Growth is slow but my aim is to continue writing honestly on issues that matter to me. I don’t know how to utilize backend stuff with AI. Can you please direct me to some YouTube videos or Substack pages to start. I am afraid, but I am curious. Thanks.
Finally we are making some progress on the right frontier! Sucks the one willing to say it out loud is always the one punished. Thanks for sharing the tools.
I saw someone mention another tool maple ai or something in this thread. I've been using the Business (theoretically encrypted version of openAI- right?, memoryless-mode, of course training off) - using md files in Projects. Are there advantages to maple that you’re seeing? Trying to compare 3…I refuse to use APIs so file mgt is a PITA
100% agree but I don't have the patience or skills for the bumps in the road I hit. I’m a faux-nerd. I hung out with them and could ask enough questions to be dangerous but not do the work.

Ultimatley if ur a nerd building your own local AI is the best move and agents work better and better on local models now.

Pro version works great for noobs. Local is better, but requires more skill. I prefer local, but venice works great for other things.
Free version sucks but wat do u expect for free from a company not stealing ur data?
Ollama is great. But it can be slow, even on a M4 MBP.
