I’ve got fancy routers, spare computers, a NAS, elite monitors and way too much gear and I just invested in a pair of compression boots so I can play pickleball/tennis daily and recover faster….

I love my tech BUT there is only one item that I really care about.

My fucking coffee mug.

It was a custom created piece of pottery that was gifted to me and every morning I enjoyed making a fresh cup of organic coffee and pouring it into my custom oversized mug….

Well last night I knocked it off my desk and broke it.

I had a meltdown.

I yelled at my wall (who I named Steve) and threw my hat at the wall and broke my bracelet and it reminded me of my old hockey days cz I snapped.

Here’s how it happened:

1. The livestream NHL playoff game I was pirating glitched out.

2. My neighbor was blasting his bi-weekly cocaine/stripper music rave session.

3. My cousin was trying to talk to me about red alert strategies…

4. I was not wearing my custom glasses for irlens syndrome…

5. I was trying to write a sponsored post and was hating every minute of it.

It was a recipe for disaster as I was over stimulated, frustrated and not in control of my surroundings.

So I turned to try to adjust my HDMI cable and fix the stream and BAM.

Here’s the result.

I don’t care about stuff.

I’ve moved almost every year of my fucking life and gotten used to giving things away, selling favorite items, trucks and clothes. I am not attached to things.

BUT I did care about this coffee cup. It brought me joy. It was from someone I care about. This morning it sucked using a smaller white coffee cup.

So what the hell does this have to do with the creator economy?

Well not much.

Except I was also trying to write a sponsored post about a feature that I would not use. The company is Artlist, and I do use their image generation tools to create infographics, and I use their music and video generation for various tasks… It’s one of two tools I use that are not local AI.

SO I sandbox them on my work computer and am very careful the data I share with these tools.

However the breaking of the cup made me face something….

Maybe it’s time to fully accept the death of my old means of income, and social media usage.

I decided not to try to use Artlists new high end video production tool as I don’t give a shit about any of that.

I turned down an easy $3k.

I’ve turned down a lot more over the years so I’ve gotten used to it but this time felt different.

The rage I felt from breaking the cup translated to the creator economy.

I have a long story that I’m not going to ramble into here.

But I saw the top 1% of creators and how they acted.

I was one of them for a long time.

I’m glad I walked away BUT I have not fully walked away in the past 2 years of distancing myself from my old friends and ways of income.

It feels like the time is here for ol Luke.

The truth is… I built most of my previous business drunk out of my fucking mind and ever since I went sober (approaching 3 years) I’ve realized….

I absolute hate social media.

I detest how good I am at it.

I cannot stand how easy it is to sell bullshit to people.

So I walked away….. But I keep looking back u know?

This is me just thinking out loud and sharing with no lessons or intent to profit. Maybe some of you engaged with my shit over the years and read this far and if so cheers to you…

You scroll through LinkedIn or Twitter/X and you see all the AI slop. You see the “10x your productivity” gurus and the “AI is killing creativity” purists, and your brain just breaks….

So you quit those platforms and come to Substack and…..

YOU SEE THE SAME BS!!!!

Then your reaction is typically one of the following two camps….

Camp A) “This is the end of human connection.... Soooo I’m going to write everything by hand in a candle-lit room like some sad poetic genius!!!”

Camp B) “I must prompt everything! I will become a GPT-powered content machine!!”

Looks ridiculous and polarizing and like the last guru post u gobbled up doesn’t it?

Good. Now slap yourself and read on.

(lol but no really do it… but like gently aight)

Black and white thinking is just as lazy as the AI slop your favorite influencer just posted and will post again tomorrow.

Slop attracts slop.

But rebels, free thinkers and contrarians live in the grey AND ARE MY FAVORITE PEOPEL SO FACK THAT BLACK AND WHITE SHITE.

The whole “Dead Internet Theory” thing you’re so scared of isn’t being caused by AI itself. It’s being caused by this stupid, binary narrative peddled by lazy gurus and adopted by a lazy society. It’s being caused by people choosing to be either 100% human or 100% AI.

The 100% human approach gets you left in the dust. You’re slow, you’re inefficient, and you can’t compete with the content firehose.

The 100% AI approach gets you sounding like a robot. Your soul gets extracted, your voice gets homogenized, and you become part of the very problem you hate.

The winning strategy is to be both. It’s honestly not that deep.

Use AI to handle the boring back-end stuff.
Use your humanity to ACTUALLY connect with your audience.

Easy peasy.

Personally, I’ve always enjoyed writing unhinged like this and automating the hell out of the back-end like a total nerd.

I was banned over 10 times on LinkedIn for my unhinged writing but I refuse to stop. I refuse to become slop and become like the gurus I detest.

I believe you don’t need to pick a side.

You can use AI AND be so human it stands out.

Not in a malicious way but in a way that was fun, pure chaos, and 100% mine.

Story time… (skip down to the next line for the TLDR)

I built an audience that funneled to my ghostwriting gig by writing about whatever the heck popped in to my mind after a whisky bender…

I gave away hundreds of pizzas just because I thought it was fun.

I created a movement where people shared custom GIFs and ranked them weekly in a contest I called the #gifpowerrankings…

I roasted influencers on livestreams until my throat was raw. I streamed for 24 hours straight, hosted meme battles that broke Discord, and built a community by being unapologetically, un-strategically myself…

I mean if u don’t believe me here’s a post from the archives lol..

I really did just post whatever I wanted and it was a hoot.

• There was no brand guide.

• There was no content calendar.

• There was just a rebel with an internet connection and a refusal to play by the rules.

It was messy, but it was real. And it was working.

I built a “personal brand” via chaos.

Then I got too good at the influencer game. I started to optimize myself, my brand and my style aannnnnnnnnnd that’s when I lost my voice.

Sure there were other reasons (10+ bans didn’t help) but in truth….

Somewhere along the way, the rebel got a corporate job.

I started writing about how to grow. I traded the livestreams for lead magnets and the meme battles for sales funnels. I started optimizing my hooks, writing with AI because it was more efficient and shifted my “personal brand” into a presence that was palatable, professional, and completely sanitized.

My content got blander. My growth though got faster….

And that is the problem with the creator economy stranger…. It rewards bland. It rewards soulless optimized content that the masses want to consume….

But when you are a rebel and a free spirit…

This way of creating will destroy you.

Ultimately I slowly became exactly what I used to make fun of: another creator on the hamster wheel, chasing a ghost, talking about growth, followers and hustling my way to saying nothing really at all.

Well after all that…. I decided to quit social media and for most of 2025 I changed my picture into a cartoon and ghosted. Walked away from most of my income, shut down my ai course, nuked my newsletter and most of my platforms and said fack it im out.

I thought there was no hope to any of this for a while last year…..

But all is not lost.

I’ve found my voice and I think you can too. It starts with getting brutally honest and understanding that the system and the creator economy that crushed you has a critical weakness.

It’s a weakness we can exploit.

Small, independent creators have a weapon that can allow us to swarm, undercut, and overtake the big boys.

So here’s the deal about my phone life (since u asked I know u did!!!).

For the last 3 years I’ve used two phones. One Android and one iPhone.

Let me get into why I’ve made the move and gave the iPhone the boot...

I was never an Apple fanboy, but for my work in social media, I needed to see how the other half lives. Some apps, like Twitter, just work better on iOS. I get it. And I’ll admit, the camera is pretty damn good.

But after a couple years of giving the iPhone a fair shot, my original diagnosis stands: Apple is not for me. The promise of privacy was well... hollow.

The crux of the situation is….

I prefer more control. I like to tinker. Most of all though….

I don’t like my phone spying on me….

It turns out, the iPhone isn’t that private at all.

For years, Apple has played a clever game.

They position themselves as the guardians of privacy while quietly building a multi-billion dollar advertising business on the back of your data. It’s a classic bait-and-switch.

Tip of the cap to them, your data is a gold mine and they’ve managed to convince you that they care about your privacy.

In a recent court filing, Apple’s own lawyers admitted it. They told a judge, “Given Apple’s extensive privacy disclosures, no reasonable user would expect that their actions in Apple’s apps would be private from Apple.”

Read that again.

No reasonable user would expect privacy.

So while Tim Cook is on stage talking about privacy as a “fundamental human right,” the legal team is in court saying, “C’mon, you knew we were watching.”

It’s a masterclass in gaslighting.

Again tip of the cap to their marketing team, they’ve done well to convince their customer that their Apple devices are private. To be fair, regulations for privacy are getting very difficult to navigate and it’s quite clear that in the 2020s nothing on our phones or on social is private at all.

That bothers me.

So naturally I’ve been obsessing over just how bad it is and let me reassure you it is in fact REAL BAD!!

The rabbit hole is trouble.

• Your data is being harvested.

• Your location patterns are being studied.

• Your purchases are being used to retarget you with ads.

The list goes on and on…

Wild that most people have no idea.

Wilder still, that some people know but would rather have the convince of the phone.

Now I know what some of you are saying…

Well I can just turn off the settings. I can turn on lockdown mode.

Yeah so about THAT………….

Researchers at Mysk (a software company) found that even when you disable “Device Analytics,” Apple’s own apps like the App Store, Apple Music, Apple TV, and Stocks keep collecting an insane amount of data on you. In real-time.

They’re tracking what you look at, how long you look at it, where you tap, and what ads you see. They’re even collecting your device’s Unique ID (UDID), screen resolution, and keyboard languages. This is called “fingerprinting,” and it’s one of the most invasive tracking methods out there.

As one of the researchers, Tommy Mysk, told Gizmodo: “The level of detail is shocking for a company like Apple.”

It gets worse.

A study from Aalto University in Finland found that Siri collects data in the background from other apps you use, regardless of whether you’ve enabled voice control.

Why the iPhone 16 is so bad for privacy...

Now look I could write 50,000 words about how the iPhone isn’t private and give you more studies, youtube videos and things to read up on but the reality is most people are not going to give up their phone.

It’s too convenient and I understand that.

I’m not trying to change your mind.

Just sharing my journey and why I’m moving towards become a digital minimalist.

So let’s switch gears for a pivot and talk about that.

Let’s Be Honest: Your Phone is Destroying Your Attention!!

I’ve always been someone that prefers being on a computer.

Its faster. It’s more efficient. It gives you more control over your digital environment.

I’ve been moving more and more towards barely using my smartphone.

Having 3 phones no longer makes sense.

The main phone I’m keeping does not even have a sim card in it…. (more on that in a future newsletter)…

I actually separate all of my devices now.

• I have my work desktop computer which I use for all my AI work, writing social media posts, taking calls and interacting with the world.

• I have my linux laptop which I use for personal chats, banking and journaling.

• I have a dead phone with a sim card in it for SMS 2fa and thats it.

• I have a rebuilt android OS for signal and some comms.

That is it.

So I barely spend any time on my phone anymore.

Yes my primary driver is privacy but my secondary driver is also a big deal to me.

And that’s……

Valuing digital minimalism and being more present in the world.

I go for walks without my phone.

I’m disconnected for hours at a time.

Oh and yes my patterns are harder for big tech to track and sell.

This makes me happy.

The real truth is that these devices are dopamine slot machines, meticulously designed to hijack your attention and keep you scrolling.

So I respect that.

I’m not fully leaving the digital world behind (altho I debated it) but rather just making it work for me as a tool.

And that’s I think the way it’s meant to be.

I got banned over 10x for speaking my mind. I encountered a lot of hate and enjoyed stirring the pot. Ironically I used to make fun of cartoon profile pictures and anon accounts….

So before I continue with my story let me pose a question that I’m still trying to decide for myself regarding balancing my need for a private public persona and also using social media for business…

Last year on my birthday I decided to start slowly shutting down my business.

I gave all my ghostwriting clients away or fired them.

I helped my virtual assistant start his own business and gave him his first few clients so he was taken care of.

I created a plan to slowly phase out spending hours and hours a day on social media…

Essentially I started burning my boats.

Almost a year later as I slowly phased out my business I decided to burn the harbor and the city too! I stumbled into the world of data privacy and cybersecurity and realized the world was changing and that I needed to accept the shift and shield my personal life online and some of my opinions.

We can’t control these platforms. We can’t control governments. The truth is that the internet is far less free today than it was 10 years ago….. What you post online can be used against you and well I don’t trust the powers at be to be fair….

(cz they just aren’t and I was not gonna just appease them with fake vanilla thought leadership and keep collecting easy money)

I decided it was time to give up the FULLY unhinged schtick…

So I….

• Deleted my AI Writing course that helped over 500+ users write with AI.

• Deleted all of my LinkedIn posts.

• Deleted 10 Gmail accounts.

• Deleted my G-Suite setup.

• Deleted my Instagram..

• Deleted my Threads.

• Deleted my WhatsApp.

• Deleted my Snapchat.

• Deleted my TikToks.

• Deleted my Discord.

• Deleted my Slack.

• Deleted my Facebook.

• Deleted my Reddit.

• Deleted hundreds of online accounts..

• Deleted as much data as I could.

Below is the tool I used to do some of the process… It’s elite and I encountered no issues at all using it. Essentially Redact acts as a browser vs a tool or an extension, so when you log in, it’s like logging in to a browser and thus lowers your risk of being flagged as a bot and getting suspended…

So yeah, I also changed my profile picture to a cartoon and I hide my last name…

I had so many tools, emails and accounts to deleted and remove and it took months to do it fully and request each service to remove my data OR remove it myself…

Now the truth is, many of these services most likely have backups of my data somewhere…

BUT I still believe it was wise to remove what I could and eventually in 5 years, 10 years and 20 years there is no way those backups will be maintained..

Just my personal belief there and I could be wrong….

During this time my income took a hit and I started refusing work.

I did not want to do ghostwriting anymore, LinkedIn influencing, AI writing or any of the things that I’d been doing…

I also stopped spending 8+ hours a day on social media and started touching grass.

In 2025 I’ve spent way more time in the real world and it’s been great.

I’m building a new lane now and am obsessed with private AI, local AI and finding a way to show up on social media in a new way.

I think it’s a great challenge and I’m excited about it…

I will say this has been a journey and I’m still working on deciding fully for myself how I want to sandbox my online presence and my life…

Meaning, how do I separate what I share online and how I build my business from my life in the real world?

I went from posting 3x a day in 2020 to not posting for 3 months this year.

A wild decline.

As I begin posting again and figuring out how to show up online in a new way, I’m navigating what that looks like for me and how I want to do it.

I’m debating how to share photos in real life situations securely….

AND I’m debating as my poll shared… What do I do with my profile pic and my last name?

How to get started and begin sandboxing your digital life.

So just what is sandboxing?

Basically it’s created an isolated environment to protect yourself.

I wont get too technical but to me, it’s the process of separating your private life and your public social media life.

Here’s where to begin .

Step 1: Audit your social media platforms.

Ask yourself this, if somebody spent 10 minutes stalking your accounts and your business information could they determine the following:

• What city you live in and your home address.

• Who your friends are and their accounts.

• Where your family lives and where they work.

• Where you went to school, what you like to eat, where you like to travel.

I could go on but this is a good start. For many of you, you’ll be surprised at how easy it is to find all this information about you.

Ask yourself if you are comfortable with strangers knowing all this information.

In 2016 it was a different world and perhaps not that big of a deal.

But in 2025 the world is a very different place.

I personally would not want any stranger knowing the answers to most of these questions…

Step 2: Audit your email addresses / phone numbers / business addresses

This step is quicker… Have you created two separate profiles for yourself? Think of this like chrome profiles.

• 1 profile should be personal. Your personal email, phone number and home address.

• 1 profile should be business. Your biz email, phone number, and home address.

So why do this?

Well for starters it’s good business practice and will make your life more organized but more importantly this provides you with a layer of privacy and anonymity.

Separating the two into boxes gives you more privacy.

Step 3: Review your tool stack.

Now apply the first two steps to all the tools you use online.

Do you have tools for business and tools for yourself?

Have you separated them properly and made sure that you aren’t sharing personal information like addresses, banking details and more with public tools?

You are risking data leaks and exposing your information to hackers and the public at large if you have not done so.

For now that’s a good starting point.

When whistleblowers exposed Facebook’s data stealing ways I just laughed… and when documentaries were realized focusing on how harmful the algorithms are, I responded by going live for 24 hours on a row on LinkedIn and bringing a ton of people together for no reason except for….

Connection.

This was the foundation for everything I enjoyed on social media.

Business and friends. Humor and pleasure. Whisky and pizza…

I ran a free Discord community before it was cool and charged $0.

In fact I gave away a pizza and prizes weekly with meme battles and GIF power rankings and silly wild live streams…

It was all during lockdowns and I just leaned into the connection that social media brought and the power of creating work just by getting to know a lot of random people.

However it was during covid that I began to experience the consequences of an online following and speaking your mind…

I got banned for this post…

This was one of over 10 bans that I have experienced on social media (LinkedIn specifically) since 2020. I survived many cancellation attempts and each time found a way back to the platform thanks to a great community and well no life at all and a lot of obsession…

Anyways…

It wasn’t just counter cultural opinions and posts that got me banned…

It was posts about whisky, pizza giveaways, livestream trolling, playful banter and a host of other silly reported comments and posts…

After a ban where LinkedIn Staff threatened to ban me for good if it happened again I cleaned up my act….

No trolling.

No counter cultural posts.

Very little rants and honest takes…

I focused on AI writing, marketing and how to grow on LinkedIn and my account boomed and business did too… But as I scaled and worked hard on growing faster, bigger and broader I had to narrow my voice and narrow my authenticity…

I full accepted that most folks didn’t want to hear my truth.

• They just wanted to be sold hope.

• They wanted me to tell them it was possible.

• They just wanted fast clout, the attention and the money..

It didn’t matter if the growth guides worked, or the AI tools were good, or that the engagement was 90% from the third world, or that the strategies didn’t work unless u have a lot of time or a lot of money…

I felt disheartened n well….

I didn’t have a solution so I faded into the shadows….

The game wasn’t mine.

That journey continued this summer as I began to unwind my online footprint and found my new obsession and fight…

And more importantly…

I decided the front facing personal branding influencer life wasn’t for me. So naturally my content, photos and well the majority of accounts had to go. Once I started, the rabbithole got big and well dark. I dove into public vs private AI, cybersecurity and if it was possible to build a remote business without plastering my sexy face everywhere….

(jury is still out there tbh….)

But of all the things I deleted, I think ChatGPT was without a doubt the most important to exit.

SO what you say? ChatGPT is my friend. Why should I care what u did Luke?

See I spent the last 10 years building on social media.

Yep, way back in 2016 I branched out into the online world and began making money remotely. I quit construction and traveled the world with my partner. From Instagram influencing to social media managing to photoshootin and selfie capturing to ghostwriting to AI writing… I wore a billion hats over that decade.

As time went on I realized I much preferred the hidden work.

SEO. Writing. Data. AI. Lead Magnets. Email flows… Anything nerdy, technical and involving computers and not humans.

So much so that I decided AI was for me and was the only way to avoid scaling a meaningful business with humans.

Anywhoodles I won’t bore you with stories of social media bans, pizza giveaways, blonde selfies and van adventures…

But I want to talk a little bit bout where I landed with AI.

See as I began deleting all of my online work and accounts I realized that once again it’s the hackers and the nerds that are going to rule the next decade.

• The dorks building their own private servers.

• The nerds building their own cool AI bots.

• The ones that know the system inside and out and beat it fair and square.

Public AI tools like ChatGPT and Perplexity may be leading the race right now… But more and more users are realizing that these tools are in fact FAR WORSE FOR YOUR PRIVACY THAN GOOGLE EVER WAS.

Both launched browsers that arguably steal more of your data than Chrome.

Oh and by the way, every search you’ve ever done on GPT is available for them to use to retarget you with ads and in some cases are available to government authorities.

Perplexity is no better. Their new browser Comet is a huge security risk and I’m not going to bother going into detail in this newsletter but feel free to do a quick search to find out for yourself.

Most humans are going to continue using ChatGPT, Google, Microsoft and Apple. They are happy to trade speed and convenience for privacy.

I refuse to do that.

See I’ve always been a rebel.

There isn’t a system out there that I don’t believe I can outsmart and beat… Social media and AI is just another system.

So I’ve been exploring alternative Private AI tools, learning cloud security and local AI and exiting big tech while finding alternatives. I still believe in AI but I’m not willing to give up my privacy and security in exchange for easy mode. Sooooo I’m cooking up some new things in the shadows and enjoying rebuilding from 0.
